Causes, Prevention and Ayurvedic herbal home remedies of Sunburn and natural living

Sunburn is caused due to overexposure to sunlight. The UV rays of the sun harms the skin and it increases the risk of skin cancer. Fair skinned people are more prone to sunburn. The effects of sunburn vary from tanning, discoloration, minor redness, irritation and inflammation of skin or even formation of blisters. In severe cases it may lead to shock or even death. Chills, fever, nausea and fainting are some symptoms associated with sunburn.
Ways to prevent sun burn.
Using of sunscreen lotions reduces the effect of harmful UV rays. Wear clothes which are loose fitting and are capable of absorbing sweat. Prefer clothes that cover the whole body. Wear sunglasses and hat. Drink plenty of water to keep the body hydrated.
Below given are some herbal home remedies to treat sunburn.
Peel the skin of Aloe Vera and apply the fleshy part on the affected area. This alleviates pain and irritation.
Apply sandal paste on the affected area. Sandal has got cooling properties. It helps to reduce the burning sensation.
Dip a clean cloth in cold water and put it on the affected part.
Have a tub bath in cool water. Adding a cup of cider vinegar to the water is found to be beneficial.
If the face skin is affected place cucumber or potato slices. Placing wet teabags on eyes are also useful.
Juice of cabbage can be applied after cooling. This helps to reduce the effect of sunburn.
Juice from onion helps to keep the skin cool and reduces inflammation.
A mixture of lemon juice and honey will relieve the pain and lighten the tan.
Always in case of sunburn replenish the lost water by drinking plenty of water and eating fruits like watermelon.
